If you’ve purchased either a TYT MD-UV380 or 390, you may not realize that the manufacturer previously made a decision to ship all of their radios locked at the frequency ranges between 150 MHz and 160 MHz on the UHF band, and on VHF from 450 MHz to 460 MHz.
If your MD-UV380 is running firmware version 14.07 or higher, or if you have a MD-UV390 running firmware version 18.03 or higher, you can unlock your radio by pressing a combination of buttons while powering the radio on. If your radio is running versions older than the ones listed, then special software will be required to unlock the radio.
To unlock either the MD-UV380 or MD-UV390 with the requisite firmware versions:
- With the radio powered off, hold down the two buttons on the side of the radio that are above and below the PTT button.
- While holding down the side buttons, power the radio on.
Note: You will not receive a notification but the radio is now unlocked.
