To obtain a license, you will need register with the Federal Communications Commission, and requesting a Federal Registration Number (FRN), https://apps.fcc.gov/cores/userLogin.do.
Use the REGISTER link to begin the process of creating and account.
Once you have created your account and receive your FRN, which typically happens moments after submitting the form, you will be able to login to the Universal Licensing System with your credentials.
To begin the application process, go to the Universal Licensing System website, https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsEntry/licManager/login.jsp.
Use your FRN and password that you created to login. Once logged in, use the MENU options by selecting APPLY FOR A NEW LICENSE to begin the online GMRS license application.
From the drop-down MENU, scroll all the way down to the bottom and select ZA – GENERAL MOBILE RADIO (GMRS).
Next, select CONTINUE.
Unless this request is for a special or temporary authorization, you will select NO from the first drop down menu. Unless you are exempt from FCC fees, you will also select NO for the next two drop-down menus.
Select CONTINUE to proceed to the next screen.
Fill out your name and address, and then select CONTINUE.
Unless you have been convicted of a felony, select NO from the drop-down, and then select CONTINUE.
Next, review the information you entered, and once you have checked it for accuracy, click on CONTINUE TO CERTIFY to complete the application and pay the fee.
Be sure to log back into the Universal Licensing System in a day or two to confirm if the license has been issued. If it has, then you will be able to download a PDF copy for your records.
